Advocating for equity & justice

Our 2025 policy priorities reflect our principles and ideas for improving our educational system for students, educators, and families. To ensure equitable, meaningful access to public education, the Washington State Legislature must protect students from unscrupulous practices and implement policies that provide greater access effectively and equitably. Policymakers have an essential role in protecting and securing students’ civil rights, especially in light of attacks on policies designed to rectify historical discrimination and make campuses more welcoming to everyone.

Doula Care

Prioritize Medicaid reimbursement for doula services, rent cap policies, and community-based early learning hubs with wraparound services to address systemic barriers and support families facing the greatest challenges.

Holistic Programs

Promote policies integrating culturally responsive doula care, affordable housing, and holistic early learning programs to improve maternal and child health, strengthen housing stability, and provide equitable access to high-quality education.

Ending Isolation & Restraint

Equip schools with training and resources to implement prevention and de-escalation practices, eliminating harmful practices like isolation and significantly limiting restraint.

Parental Involvement in Schools Post-Conviction

Create supportive environments for each and every family by addressing volunteer eligibility in schools for parents with past criminal convictions.

Increased Investment in LAP

Expand funding to ensure our most vulnerable students receive the services needed to help close opportunity gaps and support student success.

Increased Investment in Special Education

Create funding structures that enable districts to provide the resources and support every student needs to access their education and create inclusive school communities.

Digital Literacy

Invest $45 into the Digital Literacy and Navigation program of the State Broadband Office to continue delivering high quality, culturally anchored digital navigation services.

Address the Digital Divide

Build and promote evidence-based recommendations for programming to address the digital divide.
