This past Sunday, along with a night of performances, Songs of Black Folk awarded their Outstanding Public Service Awards. This recognition is intended to highlight and encourage the “next” generation of transformative servant leaders.

Sharonne Navas, the Equity in Education Coalition Executive Director, was awarded the Maxine Mimms Education Empowerment Award for her commitment to educational empowerment.

The other awardees honored were:

  • Joye Hardiman received the Norman B. Rice Community Development and Public Service Award for her dedication to community development. 
  • Yolanda Barton received the Trish Millines Dziko Diversity in Technology Award for promoting diversity in the tech industry. 
  • Nate Jackson received the Patrinell Wright Excellence in the Performing Arts Award for his outstanding achievements in the performing arts. 
  • Omari Salisbury received the Lyle Quasim Social Justice & Activism Award for his dedication to social justice and activism.
