Andrea (Dre) Carrillo is a dedicated advocate for educational equity, with a strong focus on early childhood development and family engagement. Born and raised in Moses Lake, WA, she grew up in a mixed-status household, experiencing firsthand the systemic barriers that many immigrant families face in pursuit of the “American Dream.” Her personal journey navigating public education with immigrant parents deeply influenced her commitment to ensuring language access and support for multilingual families.
Andrea earned her associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education in 2023 and began her career in early learning after recognizing how language barriers create obstacles for families seeking resources and support. As a parent, she understands the critical role of early childhood development, particularly for families whose primary language is not English.
With over a decade of experience in family social services, Andrea has worked extensively to support families in overcoming economic and educational challenges. She has witnessed the struggles parents face in navigating the education system and strives to bridge these gaps by advocating for accessible and equitable early learning opportunities.
Andrea currently serves as a Commissioner with the Washington State Women’s Commission, where she works to advance policies that promote equity and economic justice for women and families. She is also a member of the Executive Committee for the Early Learning Advisory Council (ELAC), helping to shape early learning policies and initiatives at the state level. Additionally, she is actively involved with the Early Learning Action Alliance, North Central Early Learning Coalition, and Washington Communities for Children and Doulas4All Coalition.
Beyond her policy work, Andrea is deeply committed to community service. She volunteers with the Kiwanis Club of Moses Lake, Comunidades Sin Fronteras Washington, and Unidos Nueva Alianza Foundation.
Outside of her professional and advocacy work, Andrea cherishes time spent with her extended family and enjoys traveling with her daughters and husband.
