By empowering educators to challenge white supremacy culture, dismantle systemic racism, and promote equity within their institutions, TCARE aims to create lasting change within Washington state’s public school system. By cultivating a network of anti-racist educators and administrators, TCARE seeks to transform school cultures, improve educational outcomes for all students, and create a more inclusive and equitable learning environment.

TCARE’s fellowship program consists of two tracks: one for white educators and another for educators of color. Each track is tailored to meet the specific needs and experiences of its participants.

White Educators Track: Designed to help white educators understand the systemic nature of racism and their role in perpetuating it, this track focuses on self-reflection, unlearning biases, and actively engaging in anti-racist and anti-white supremacy practices as abolitionists.

Educators of Color Track: This track provides educators of the global majority with mentorship, support, and opportunities for rejuvenation. Participants will engage in critical dialogue, share experiences, and develop strategies for navigating and challenging systemic racism.

Workshops and Training Sessions

Participants will attend workshops covering topics such as systemic racism, white supremacy culture, intersectionality, and institutional transformation. These sessions will provide a framework for understanding and addressing racism within educational institutions.

Mentorship and Relationship Building

Both tracks emphasize mentorship and relationship building among participants. Educators will have the opportunity to connect with peers, including former educators of the year, for support and guidance throughout the fellowship.

Action Planning and Implementation

Participants will develop individualized action plans to guide their anti-racist work within their schools and districts. These plans will outline specific goals, strategies, and accountability measures for fostering institutional change.

Community Engagement

TCARE encourages educators to engage with their school communities and neighborhoods to identify assets, address disparities, and promote inclusivity through collaborative and transformational partnerships.

Continuous Learning and Reflection

Throughout the fellowship, participants will engage in self-assessment, reflection, and journaling to track their progress, identify areas for growth, and hold themselves accountable to their commitments.

Ongoing Support and Resources

Our commitment to anti-racist education extends beyond the duration of our programs. We provide ongoing support, resources, and follow-up opportunities to ensure that participants continue their journey towards becoming effective agents of change. Cohorts will continue to meet after the fellowship to maintain momentum, connection, and navigate problems of practice.

Additional Training Opportunities

Tailored professional development sessions will also be available to others outside of the fellowship program to enhance and deepen their anti-racism and anti-white supremacy practices with a menu of different offerings.
